The Mule, 80-year-old Earl Stone, who is broke, lonely, and on the verge of losing his job. Earl accepts a job offer that only requires him to drive a car, unaware that he is unknowingly becoming a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. Courier work becomes something Earl excels at. Impressed by his performance, the cartel starts giving Earl more jobs. However, Earl soon catches the attention of ambitious narcotics agent Colin Bates. As Earl's money problems disappear, his past mistakes begin to weigh heavily on him. He doesn't have much time to fix his wrongdoings before being caught by the police or the cartel.
